The eVisitor visa Australia is granted in five days on average. As soon as you have received your visa, you can start planning your trip to Australia. One city which should certainly not be missed is Sydney. Despite popular belief, it is not the capital, but it is the largest and oldest city in Australia.

Sydney Opera House

Without doubt the best known building in Sydney is the Opera House. The building, which is known for its white roof with its shell pattern, has become a symbol of Australia. The Opera House was designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon and opened in 1973. It is home to the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. More than 40 music, dance and theatre performances are held there every week. Those who wish to attend a performance should book their tickets in time, as performances often sell out quickly.

If you do not manage to get tickets for a performance, a good alternative is to book a tour of the building. The Opera House is also very impressive from the inside. In addition to the auditoriums, there is an exhibition area where exhibitions are regularly held. The building is also worth seeing from the outside. For example, you can visit the Opera House at sunset for a breathtaking view.

Harbour Bridge

Another characteristic structure in Sydney is the Harbour Bridge, located a stoneʼs throw away from the Opera House. The Harbour Bridge is the widest arched bridge in the world and has no fewer than 8 lanes for cars, two train tracks, a cycle track and a footpath. From the highest point of the bridge - at 134 metres -, you have a beautiful view of the city. The trip to the top takes about 3.5 hours. The bridge is also known for the fireworks show held there on New Yearʼs Eve.

Botanical Gardens

Not far from the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge are the Royal Botanical Gardens, a green oasis in the middle of the city. The botanical gardens cover some 30 hectares and are the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The park is home to various species of birds, tropical plants, flowers and trees. Locals often come here during their lunch break to walk, jog or relax. From Mrs. Macquaries Chair - a sandstone rock at the far end of the peninsula on which the botanical gardens are located -, you have a beautiful view of the harbour and the rest of the area.

Lovers of plants, flowers and trees are advised to visit the National Arboretum in Canberra. The Arboretum consists of no less than 250 hectares of gardens with different species of plants and flowers. As an Australian visa allows you to stay in the country for up to three months, you have plenty of time to visit other cities besides Sydney, such as Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane

Darling Harbour

Sydney is popular among travellers for its lively nightlife. A popular district is Darling Harbour, the prime location for a night out. Here you will find numerous restaurants, cafés, theatres and nightclubs. During the day, you can visit various museums in the district. One of these is the Australian Museum, Australiaʼs oldest museum, which specialises in natural history and anthropology.

Beaches

Sydney is also known for its various city beaches, of which Bondi Beach is the best known. The beach, which has featured in many films and TV series, is popular with tourists and surfers. Bondi Beach is only ten kilometres from the centre of Sydney. You can therefore easily combine a day of sightseeing with a day at the beach. From Bondi Beach, you can walk along the coast to other beaches. If you want to avoid crowds, it is better to visit another beach in Sydney, for example Manly Beach. From Circular Quay, the harbour in the centre of Sydney, you can take the ferry to Manly.

Australia visa

For a trip to Sydney, you need an Australia visa. Tourists and business travellers can apply for an eVisitor visa or an ETA Australia. Because the eVisitor visa is cheaper than the ETA and the same requirements apply to these visas, it is recommended applying for the eVisitor visa Australia. In general, British and Irish nationals are eligible for this visa type. The application procedure is very simple and takes place entirely online. After filling in the application form and paying the fees, you will receive your visa in about five days.
