Do you need a visa for your trip to Turkey? Make sure you know if you need to apply for your Turkey visa at e-Visa.co.uk. This can be helpful, since the online e-visa is easier to obtain for those who meet the requirements.

You do not have to visit a Turkish embassy for the digital visa. This is required, however, if you need to apply for a paper visa because you are not eligible for the e-visa. The appointment, on the other other hand, needs to be made online on the website of the embassy. Making an appointment for a paper visa takes time. Make sure to check before departure whether you can apply for the Turkey e-visa online, or whether your travel purpose requires you to have a physical visa which you need to collect at the Turkish embassy or consulate.

Please Note: Do you want to stay in Turkey for less than 90 days on a holiday or business trip? If you are a national of the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, or any other country in the European Union, as of 2020, you no longer need a visa for these purposes.

What is the Turkey e-visa?

The Turkey e-visa is the electronic variant of the visa which you need to travel to Turkey for tourism or business purposes. Even after the visa requirement was abolished in 2020 for most European travellers, some nationalities still need this visa (see example). Like the paper visa sticker, also known as the passport sticker, it is an official approval by the Turkish immigration service to travel into the country.

Turkey is not a member of the Schengen Agreement, which means that status holders of one of these countries often still need a visa for Turkey if they only have a passport from their home country and if their nationality requires them to get a visa for Turkey. In some cases, travellers with a residence permit or visa from a Schengen country, Ireland, the United Kingdom or the United States of America, can apply for the appropriate visa online through the Turkish government

What is a passport sticker visa?

The passport sticker is a variant of the Turkey visa which you can only apply for by taking your passport to the Turkish consulate. Because this variant is more expensive, takes longer to deliver and has a more complex application procedure, it is advised to only make use of this option if you need a visa for Turkey, but do not qualify for the electronic variant.

Turkey e-visa: easier, cheaper, faster

The e-visa has several benefits compared to the passport sticker: itʼs easier to apply for, itʼs cheaper, and itʼs granted much faster. There are, however, several requirements to the e-visa for Turkey, which do not apply to the passport sticker. Thatʼs why it is prudent to check, before applying, whether you meet all of the requirements for the Turkey e-visa. If this is the case, you can submit your application right away on this website, through the online application form. Take note: whenever this website refers to the visa for Turkey, it refers to the electronic variant and not the passport sticker, unless specifically mentioned otherwise.

Itʼs easier to apply online

The biggest advantage of the electronic variant of the Turkey visa is that it can be acquired entirely online. By simply filling out the online application form and making the payment with Visa, MasterCard, American Express or PayPal, you can submit an application at a momentʼs notice. You donʼt need to visit a counter anywhere to get your e-visa, and can access it anywhere in the world with an internet connection on your laptop or smartphone.

Itʼs cheaper

The Turkish e-visa is the cheapest way to meet your visa requirement. Your can apply for the Turkish e-visa on this website and pay with Visa, MasterCard, American Express or PayPal, all for just £54.95. The price listed already includes application costs, service costs, consular costs, and VAT. You can also opt for an urgent delivery, which come with an additional fee of £17.50 per applicant.

Itʼs faster

The e-visa can be applied for up to the very last moment before crossing the Turkish border. Keep in mind that a last minute applciation does not guarantee that you receive your visa on time, since all requirements need to be met and the application form filled out correctly. It is, however, possible. In most of these cases, an urgent application is granted on average within 45 minutes. The physical Turkey visa which you need to pick up at the consulate has a far longer waiting period. Start on time, preferably weeks before departure if you do not qualify for the e-visa.

Why apply for a passport sticker?

In certain cases it is not possible to make use of the electronic Turkey visa. This is the case if you do not meet the requirements or if you wish to stay in Turkey longer than the allowed validity period provided by the visa. If this is the case, contact the Turkish consulate to see if you can acquire a passport sticker there.
