India has expanded again the list of authorised points of entry with an e-visa. Travellers can now enter the country through five new points of entry.

Anouncement from the Indian Ministry of Tourism

On 16 March 2026, the Indian Ministry of Tourism published a statement highlighting the success and importance of the Indian e-visa system. It was also announced that the expansion of arrival points was part of a broader strategy to improve the e-visa. The Ministry is providing a 24/7 helpline in 12 different languages to assist travellers with their trips to India or in the event of problems during their journey.

What are the new arrival points for the Indian e-visa?

Three seaports and two land border crossings have been added:

Kollam

The city of Kollam is located in the south of the Indian state of Kerala. This state lies in south-western India and is known for its tropical climate and beautiful natural surroundings. The port of Kollam has existed since the year 825 and is one of the oldest ports in India. Today, it is the third-largest port in Kerala in terms of cargo volume. Kollam is also a popular starting point for boat trips through the famous backwaters. In ancient times, however, the port of Kollam internationally famous. Spices were shipped to Rome, China and Arab countries from there.

Two ports in Vizhinjam

The town of Vizhinjam is located approximately 80 kilometres south of Kollam. Two different ports have been added to the list of permitted arrival points for e-visas: the international deep-water port and the general port of Vizhinjam. The port of Vizhinjam has a greater natural water depth than other ports along the Kerala coast. This makes Vizhinjam the first deep-sea port on the south-west coast of India. Consequently, the port of Vizhinjam serves as an international hub for goods, capable of accommodating modern mega-container ships.

The Darranga border crossing (India-Bhutan)

This border crossing is located in the Indian state of Assam, close to the border with Bhutan. Near the village of Darranga lies Orang National Park. Here, visitors can admire majestic Bengal tigers, Indian rhinos, wild buffaloes and adorable pygmy hogs. In addition, there are several temples and cultural shrines in the Darranga region.

Jogbani (India-Nepal)

The Jogbani border crossing connects the Indian town of Jogbani with the Nepalese city of Biratnagar, Nepal’s fourth-largest city. Biratnagar is an important trading centre and a starting point for journeys to the Terai, Nepal’s tropical lowlands, or for excursions to the Himalayas.

European citizens need a visa to travel to India. The simplest and quickest way to obtain a visa for India is applying for an e-Visa.

The validity and maximum length of stay depend on the type of visa you choose. At e-Visa.co.uk you can apply for your e-visa with a form with clear instructions for each field to be completed. To submit you application, you just need to fill in the application form and provide an ID photo (or a selfie) and a photo of your passport.

Your application will then be processed by e-Visa.co.uk and after that by the Indian immigration authorities. Most applications are approved within 7 days on average.
