General questions

  • • Do I need a Myanmar visa for my trip?

All European travellers to Myanmar must possess their own visa. This also applies to children. Only citizens of Myanmar and a number of other countries in Asia can enter Myanmar solely with their passport, without needing a visa.

  • • Which visa type do I need to apply for my holiday to Myanmar?

There are two categories of visas for Myanmar: regular and electronic. Through this website, the electronic visas (for tourism) can be applied for.

Electronic visas are suitable for holidays in Myanmar lasting up to 28 days. Only travellers planning to stay in the country for longer than this period, or who do not meet the requirements of the electronic visa, need to apply for a standard visa. An appointment needs to be made with the Myanmar embassy in London. Regular visas are affixed to the passport by an embassy employee. Electronic visas are sent by e-mail, and can be printed by the travellers themselves.

  • • What do I need to do after receiving the visa?

It is important to print the visa and keep it with the passport during the trip to Myanmar. Other than that, you don’t need to do anything after approval.

  • • I paid, but didn’t receive an e-mail; what now?

Right after you have completed the payment for your visa application, you will receive a confirmation by e-mail. This e-mail contains a link to your personal status page on e-Visa.co.uk. Here you check what the status of your single or group application is.

Was your visa not issued within the expected term? The status page will tell you if and when you should contact us about this, and how to do it.

The immigration service processes all applications individually, even if you submitted a single application form for multiple travellers. Occasionally, there can be quite a bit of difference between the moments of approval between the various visas from a single group application. This can be the case if one or several people are subjected to a manual extended background check. If an application for a traveller takes more time than those of the other travellers in the group, this does not mean that the visa application for this traveller has a higher chance of being rejected.

Didn’t receive this e-mail? First check the folder ‘unwanted e-mails’ in your e-mail inbox, also known as the ‘spam’ or ‘junk’ folder. Can you still not find an e-mail with the subject ’Visa application for Myanmar received’? Try looking up the status of your application on our contact page. On this page, you will also find information on how to contact e-Visa.co.uk in case of need.

If this error is found, it will always be corrected for you right away. This way, you can still go on your trip without any problems.

  • • I’m not sure when exactly I’m arriving in Myanmar, is that a problem?

The visa for Myanmar has a period of 90 days in which you must arrive. This period starts right from the moment the visa is granted. If the visa is applied for more than 30 days before departure, the application is put on hold until 30 days before departure so that it will always be valid on the planned date of arrival. This also means that (if applied for on time) you can arrive several weeks before the planned date of arrival (as indicated in the application form). If you arrive up to 60 days after the filled in date of arrival, you will be allowed entry. So if you change your travel plans after submitting the application, make sure that you arrive in the above described period of 90 days. If that is not possible, you need to submit an entirely new visa application to enter Myanmar.

Also keep in mind that you need to have established at least one overnight stay before applying; in the application form, one residence address is asked for.
