The New Zealand government wants to optimize the Visitor Visa application procedure. As of 26 May 2025, additional documents will no longer have to be translated by a certified translator.

Tourism and economic growth

Tourism is one of the most important sectors of New Zealand's economy. In October 2024, the increase in the New Zealand tourist tax made travelling to New Zealand more expensive. The government is now trying with this measure to make New Zealand more attractive as a destination for foreign travellers.

Travellers who apply for a Visitor Visa, usually have to submit additional documents during the application procedure. Until recently, these documents had to be translated by a certified translator. Since 26 May 2025, this is no longer mandatory. Although all documents must be submitted in English, they don't need to be translated by a certified translator. Applicants must, however, indicate who made the translation and provide details about their qualifications and work experience.

Rules regarding supplementary documents

There are a series of rules regarding the translation of supplementary documents. For example, it cannot be done by the applicant themselves, a family member or an immigration advisor. Travellers who wish to apply for a temporary or permanent residence permit must still provide certified translations.

The NZeTA instead of a Visitor Visa

Many countries and nationalities are eligible for visa-free travel to New Zealand, including British and Irisch citizens. Travellers with these nationalities can apply for an NZeTA instead of a Visitor Visa. The NZeTA is an electronic travel authorisation that can easily be applied for online. You can apply for an NZeTA via this website using an application form with clear explanations. Most applications are processed within 5 days.

Once granted, the NZeTA is valid for two years. Most travellers may only stay in the country for a maximum of three consecutive months. However, British travellers may stay for six consecutive months. Here you will find more information about the requirements and the validity. In order to apply for a NZeTA, you only need to submit an ID photo, you don't need to submit any other documents. You can take the photo yourself with your mobile phone.

e-Visa.co.uk is a commercial and professional visa agency, and supports travellers in obtaining, among others, the New Zealand visa. e-Visa.co.uk is an official partner of the International Air Transport Association, IATA, with membership number 57231226, acts as an intermediary, is no law firm, nor does it employ lawyers, does not provide legal advice, and is in no way part of any government. You can also apply for a visa directly with the immigration service (123 NZD per visa, via nzeta.immigration.govt.nz). However, not with our level of support. If you submit your application via e-Visa.co.uk, our support centre is available to you 24/7. In addition, we manually check your application and all the documents you provide before submitting it to the immigration authorities on your behalf. If we suspect any errors or omissions while doing so, we will personally contact you to ensure that your application can still be processed quickly and correctly. To use our services, you pay us 123 NZD in consular fees, which we pay to the immigration service on your behalf, as well as £46.27 in service fees as compensation for our services, including VAT. Our services have saved many travellers from major problems during their trip. Should an application be rejected despite our support and verification, we will refund the full purchase price (unless an application for a previous New Zealand visa was rejected for the same traveller).
