The total cost for a standard application of the Vietnam visa is £54.95 per person. This visa needs to be applied for before departure, which means the application costs also need to be paid prior to departure. Since 2020, it is no longer possible to apply for a Vietnam Visa On Arrival (VOA). Instead, you can use the easy-to-use online form to apply through this website, following which, for almost all cases, the visa is on average issued in 13 days.
Costs of the Vietnam e-visa
It is no longer possible to apply for a Vietnam Visa On Arrival. Rather, a visa needs to be applied for before your departure. For holiday travel, business travel or a transit in Vietnam, you can easily apply online. After it is digitally issued, you will receive an email confirmation for the e-visa issuance. This is an electronic visa that can be viewed and downloaded as a computer file in PDF format. With this visa a stay of up to 90 days in Vietnam is allowed.
Because the visa application is entirely online, for eligible applicants in the United Kingdom and Ireland, there is no need to visit the Vietnamese embassy in London. This will not only save time, but will also ensure that you will already have paid the full visa cost before your travel. This means you won’t be presented with an additional stamping fee upon arrival, as it used to be the case for the now abolished visa. The total costs for a standar application of the Vietnam e-visa are £54.95.

How the Vietnam visa costs are structured
Fixed fee for all visa costs
The aforementioned cost of £54.95 for the Vietnam visa application comprises the amount total per person. This total cost already includes the consular fee (640,352 VND) as well as the service charge (£34.03) and the legally mandated VAT. This applies to the Vietnam e-visa with a maximum validity period of 90 days. The visa has an average delivery time of 13 days.
In more detail: The visa cost structure explained
The rate the Vietnam e-visa’s consular costs are at is determined by the Vietnamese government. On the one hand, these costs are destined as a reimbursement for the immigration department’s section for application assessment. On the other hand, and much like local tourist taxes, these costs serve as a source of national government income.
The service charge applies to the services of e-Visa.co.uk. Service provided include manual visa specialist checks of the applications for each individual applicant. They will assess and cross-reference the mandatory document upload for your application with the personal and travel information previously entered in the application form. Data entry errors are regularly found due to these checks and documents which do not meet the application conditions can be retrieved for later correction by the applicant. Common errors are automatically corrected, and if need be, you will be contacted by a visa specialist to make the necessary changes yourself. Such additional checking takes place before your visa application can be forwarded to the Vietnamese Immigration Department. Because of this, chances that an already approved visa would turn out to be invalid, or that your application itself would be rejected. 24/7 Customer support is also included for your application and made possible by these very same service costs.
Surcharge for an urgent application
Is the standard average delivery time of 13 days a bit tight for your travel plans? If you prefer, you can have your visa application processed urgently for further review. To do so, please check the box for ‘Urgent deliveryʼ in the application form. Vietnam visas which are requested with urgency are generally, and on average, already issued in 5 days. For an urgent application a surcharge of £17.50 per visa applies.

In more detail: no maximum delivery time guarantees
It is never possible to give solid guarantees as to the maximum delivery time for any Vietnam visa. This is, in part, due to possible delays in the event of sample checks which may be carried out unexpectedly by the immigration department. Technical issues regarding the operation of the immigration department’s system for visa processing may also cause delays at times. This system may be offline for several hours or even days in the event of a technical malfunction or maintenance works. To a lesser extent, this also applies to the systems of e-Visa.co.uk. Issues of this nature may equally occur when an urgent application is submitted.
Urgent applications are checked and processed with priority by e-Visa.co.uk, including on weekends and during public holidays. However, e-Visa.co.uk cannot exert any influence on immigration department processing times. Please don’t take any risks that may result in you not receiving your visa in time by applying for your Vietnam visa well in advance of your departure date. Ideally, you would at least have to do so several weeks ahead of your departure. This way, there is no need to pay the urgent application surcharge, and you will have more certainty as to the timely processing of your application.
Optional surcharge for automated compensation of expected CO₂ emissions
In the application form for the Vietnam visa you can indicate your voluntary preference for compensation of CO₂ emissions for your travel. For this optional service a surcharge, subject to your travel situation, applies. You can find its cost for your travel situation in the application form.
By opting to make use of the arrangement for compensation of CO₂ emissions, an equivalent amount of the total emissions for an outbound flight to, and return flight from Vietnam are compensated through VCS-certified projects.
No visa stamping fee upon arrival in Vietnam
Until 2020 most tourist visitors to Vietnam chose to apply for the Visa On Arrival (VOA). For this, however, payment needed to be made at two different moments. Once before departure, by paying up front for an approval letter and a second time upon arrival for a mandatory stamping fee. Back then, an approval letter could only be obtained from a commercial visa service, charging different rates for this particular service. The stamping fee (which was at &dollar 25) had to be paid to the Vietnamese Immigration Department. In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese Immigration Department stopped issuing the VOA. Since then, an e-visa can be applied for instead, but the VOA is no longer available. Applying for the online e-visa, only a single one-time payment is required without the need to pay for any additional stamping fee upon arrival.
