As of 1 January 2025, the Cambodian authorities reduced the prices of several e-visas. With this measure, the country hopes to become more attractive to international tourists and business travelers. In addition to this economic incentive, Cambodia also plans to remove administrative barriers for travellers.
Lowering visa fees
On 28 December 2024, the Cambodian immigration department announced a revision of the e-visa fees. This will affect both tourist and business travellers' e-visas. The consular fee for the tourist e-visa (T-type) will be reduced by USD 6 to USD 30. On the other hand, as of 2025, the consular fee for the electronic business visa (type E) will be USD 35 instead of USD 42. Find out more about information on the breakdown of visa fees for Cambodia.
Incentive for international travellers
By reducing visa prices, Cambodia aims to become a more attractive destination both for tourists and business travellers. With this measure, the country hopes to be more accessible to international travellers. Reducing visa fees would also make of Cambodia a more competitive destination on the tourist market, along with neighbouring countries and other destinations in the region. Unlike other Southeast Asian countries which admit foreign travellers without a visa, in Cambodia it is still mandatory to apply for a visa. However, with this fee reduction, Cambodian authorities hope to facilitate travel to the country.
Broader vision of tourism
Tourism is one of the main pillars of the Cambodian economy. Thus, the Cambodian authorities have presented their vision for the future of the tourism sector. Reducing the visa prices is part of the Cambodian government's broader strategy to make the country more attractive to travellers. In addition to lowering visa fees, Cambodia wants to expedite the visa application process and border controls for travellers arriving in the country. This should make it easier for travellers to get their visa and speed up the process at the airport or border.
An important step towards easing border formalities is the introduction of a digital entry form, also known as the e-Arrival Card. The e-Arrival Card for Cambodia was introduced on 1 July 2024, replacing several forms that had to be filled out separately. Previously, travellers had to fill out a paper form upon arrival in the country and declare goods at customs. This can now easily be done before travelling, thanks to the e-Arrival Card. Travellers who have filled in the e-Arrival Card online can pass through passenger screening immediately upon arrival in Cambodia.
No changes regarding the requirements and the validity
Even if the electronic visa fee has been modified, the requirements for applying for the visa, as well as the validity period haven't changed. The electronic visa has a validity of up to 30 days. Travellers may arrive in the country through any of the authorized international airports or land border crossings.
