The Vietnamese government has recently launched a new electronic visa application form. This new form will make it easier for tourists and business travellers to apply for a visa online. Moreover, the number of ports and airports through which e-visa travellers can enter Vietnam has also been expanded.

A new web page

The Vietnam Immigration Department introduced on 11 November 2024 a new electronic portal for visa applications. According to Pham Dang Khoa, director of the Vietnam Immigration Department, with this new system tourists and business travellers will be able to apply more easily for a visa. The old immigration department's application form often received criticism, as in some of the fields, it was not clear what had to be filled in exactly. Moreover, many travellers suffered technical issues when submitting their documents or making the visa payment, for instance.

A modern, simpler application form

The new application form has a modern and user-friendly design, as opposed to the previous version. In addition, the new website includes an explanatory page with instructions on how to fill in the application form and a page with frequently asked questions about the application process. The application form has also gone through a series of technical updates. For example, thanks to an automated computer system, the ID photo and the passport scan are compared by means of an automated computer system that checks the similarity between the two photos.

The application process and the validity period remain the same

Aside from these technical and design updates, the application form remains the same. Travellers must indicate, among other, their contact and passport details, and information about their trip to Vietnam. The address of the first accommodation in Vietnam must also be indicated in the application form.

The validity period and the visa requirements remain largely the same, too. The e-visa, offered in two different versions (single and multiple entry) is still valid for a stay of up to 90 days in Vietnam. In the same way, the e-visa requirements have barely changed. Only the number of ports and airports that accept e-visa travellers has been expanded.

New ports and airports accept now e-visas

The Vietnamese authorities have not only modernised the application form. They have also increased the number of air and sea ports accepting e-visa travellers. These include five new airports and four new seaports. From 11 November 2024, e-visa travellers can also enter Vietnam through the following ports and airports: Van Don Airport, Tho Xuan Airport, Dong Hoi Airport, Phu Cat Airport, Lien Khuong Airport, Cam Pha Seaport, Dung Quat Seaport, Nghi Son Seaport, Vung Ang Seaport.

Old applications will be processed as usual

Travellers who submitted a visa application before 11 November 2024 should know that their application will be processed normally. These travellers can access and download their visa with their registration code via both the old and the new application system. There is no need for them to submit a new application through the new website.
