The Vietnam visa can easily be applied for online. Anyone who wants to use this visa has to keep in mind a couple of requirements. There are requirements, among other things, regarding the length of your stay and your arrival and departure locations.

Vietnam visa

Travellers who need a visa for their trip to Vietnam have plenty to choose from. There are a number of different visas available. The Vietnam visa that can be applied for online is the easiest visa to apply for. This visa is valid for a single business trip or holiday to the country. With this visa, you are allowed to visit family or friends in Vietnam.

The e-visa is therefore sufficient for most common travel purposes. All other visas for Vietnam can only be applied for as a physical visa at the Vietnamese Embassy. This is considerably more time-consuming and more expensive.

Do I require a visa for my trip to Vietnam?

Travellers with the nationality of Ireland, Austria, Switzerland or a Benelux country always require a visa for Vietnam. Travellers with the nationality of the United Kingdom only require a visa if their stay in Vietnam exceeds 15 days. This is also applicable to travellers of German, French, Italian and Spanish nationality. All travellers with an e-visa need to keep in mind that their stay in the country cannot exceed 30 consecutive days. For some years now, the embassy of Vietnam has been advising travellers to no longer travel to the country without a visa, in the hopes of getting a visa on arrival at the airport.

Validity of the online Vietnam visa

The Vietnam e-visa has a maximum validity of 30 days from the expected arrival date you choose yourself in the online application form. Keep in mind that the starting date of your visa remains the same if you enter the country after the expected arrival date. In that case, you can stay in Vietnam for less than 30 days. With the e-visa, it is therefore possible to arrive in Vietnam after your chosen starting date, but in that case, the number of days you arrive later will be deducted from the 30-day maximum stay.

Authorised entry and exit locations

With the Vietnam e-visa, travellers can only enter and exit the country at a limited number of locations. It is only allowed to enter or exit the country at one of the appointed locations. These include eight airports, nine seaports and sixteen border crossings. Before applying for the visa, you need to know at which locations you will enter and exit the country. It is no problem if you exit Vietnam at a different location from where you entered the country. In addition to these requirements regarding your arrival and departure in the country, you need to keep in mind the other requirements of the Vietnam visa. The e-visa is valid for one trip. For example, if you travel to a neighbouring country from Vietnam and then want to travel back to Vietnam, you will require a new visa.

Still want to deviate from the chosen arrival and departure locations?

The question regarding your arrival and departure locations is an important question in the online application form for the Vietnam e-visa. Once your application is being processed, it is no longer possible to change any data in your application. Have the documents you had to submit for your visa application been approved by a visa expert at e-Visa.co.uk? In that case, your application is already being processed, and you can no longer change your chosen arrival and departure locations. Officially, you cannot enter or exit Vietnam from another location than the one you submitted in the form. If you want to be sure that you will not experience any problems when entering or exiting at another location than the one you submitted, you will have to apply for a new visa.

It is possible for travellers to arrive at or depart from another location without having to apply for a new visa. However, it is impossible to guarantee this as it is not officially allowed.
